C2C Congress 2023 at the TU Berlin: The construction industry in transformation

19.09.2023 | Peiner Träger GmbH

On 8 and 9 September, the 8th C2C Congress took place at the TU Berlin. 800 participants and 90 speakers discussed the challenges and opportunities of Cradle to Cradle and the state of the Circular Economy.

At the panel discussion "Construction in Transformation", our CEO Dr Jan Schmidt engaged in a discussion with representatives from science, politics and business about the future of the construction industry. One of the key topics discussed was the shift away from the consumption of resources and towards the use of resources. Professor Dr Lamia Messari-Becker, Head of the Department of Architecture at the University of Siegen, highlighted the significance of C2C for the construction sector: "If all countries wish to achieve long-term economic growth, there will be a significant increase in the consumption of raw materials. The only viable solution is a resource-conscious circular economy.“

One of the key advantages of steel as a building material is its high recovery rate. In fact, more than 99 % of steel from buildings is recovered. Furthermore, the scrap generated during production and processing is also completely recycled. The material cycle of steel in the construction industry therefore represents a sustainable alternative to the use of primary raw materials and promotes resource-conserving, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly construction methods.

Dr Schmidt was accompanied by Marcus Lippe, who heads the newly created Technical Customer Services department, as well as two new employees from the team: Anna Frühling and Jonas Pons are responsible for providing customer and application advice. The event provided an ideal opportunity for the team to engage with other industry players and gain valuable insights and ideas from Berlin.
