Keynote speech: green steel

18.03.2024 | Peiner Träger GmbH

What is green steeland how is it produced? How will steel production change in the future with regard to the targeted CO2 reductions?

These and other questions were discussed by members of the Baden-Württemberg metal business association at this year's Technology Days in the Black Forest at Schluchsee in early March.

Our Head of Technical Customer Services, Marcus Lippe, provided the right answers in his keynote speech on 'Green Steel': "I am delighted to have the opportunity to explain the benefits of using CO2-reduced steel in construction. The transformation of theconstruction industry is bringing steel into focus as a sustainable building material in principle, as it can be produced with very low emissions compared to other building materials and can be recycled indefinitely without downgrading. By further reducing emissions during production, the CO2 value of structural steel can be further reduced and, as a building material, significantly reduce the carbon footprint of buildings. I would like to bring this opportunity to the attention of the members of the metal business association and encourage them to openly communicate the benefits so that they can confidently position themselves as steel contractors when comparing building materials.“
